Onward and Upward: How Vertical Measures Won Best Places to Work
The Valley’s Best Places to Work were on display late-November 2017, honoring the best companies in Arizona that put their employees at the center of their business. The Phoenix Business Journal partnered with Quantum Workplace on the awards, with Quantum using a proprietary ranking system based on employee surveys to determine the best companies across five categories. The event, held at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa, drew a crowd of more than 800 people.
Vertical Measures was named a finalist for Phoenix Business Journal’s Best Places to Work in 2017.
The Vertical Measures Culture
Among the many accolades, positive reputation, and overall success – It’s the culture that makes Vertical Measures one of the best places to work. We have a passionate group of digital marketing experts who enjoy collaborating and working together every day. We’re all committed to adhering to our 8 values:
- Do the right thing
- Sense of humor
- Improve each day
- Embrace change
- In it together
We care for each other like family and interact like we’re lifelong friends, but most importantly, we work hard and provide the highest quality services to our clients. Each team member takes pride in their work; each doing their part to deliver a product that is unmatched by other agencies.
The collaborative, hard-working, and uniquely fun work culture starts at the top. The owners, Arnie and Andi Kuenn, care about their employees. Sure, this is what all business owners will say, but the Kuenn’s show their devotion to the team each day, and the proof is in the pudding!
The New Offices Feel Like Home
In 2016, Vertical Measures moved into a new office space (two times the size of our former location). The new space is an open-office environment and every workstation is adjustable with state-of-the-art desks, giving our employees the ability to stretch their legs and stand comfortably at their desk if they desire.
Our office is complete with a huge breakroom, stocked with fresh breakfast, coffee, soda, and other snack items. It has two outdoor patios to enjoy the sun while eating lunch, taking a break or holding a meeting with peers. The building has covered parking, areas to walk the golf course and a beautiful lobby with a high-end coffee service. We have 9 meeting rooms that vary in size and are complete with monitors and advanced communication capabilities for calls with clients or remote coworkers.
With generous contributions toward health insurance premiums, a 401k match program, remote working capabilities, flexible work schedules, and beautiful new offices with a gorgeous break room overlooking Stonecreek golf course, Vertical Measures provides their team with the best work environment possible. While the company is far from being a mom and pop shop, the entire staff regularly refers to Vertical Measures as “The VM Family.”
Our humorous team contributes extensively to make this the best place to work! We enjoy non-work-related activities that are planned by our Perks & Rec Committee (PRC). We start fundraisers like bottled water drives, back-to-school donations, hurricane relief, Adopt-a-Family during the holidays and, most recently, Valentine’s Day cards for Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
The PRC regularly schedules community service events and plan happy hours for our staff. We have trivia games, monthly company meetings where many prizes are awarded and several company parties throughout the year.
The perks and fun events around the office help eliminate a “day-to-day grind,” but we’re not scared of rolling up our sleeves and putting in extra work to drive results for our clients. Our staff is made up of very high-performing, driven, creative individuals who enjoy working hard and taking pride in their client’s performance. Across departments, the team has shared countless client-wins; we’ve maintained the reputation as one of the top digital marketing agencies in the country; we’ve managed to find a great balance so that work can also be rewarding.
Vertical Measures adopted a 401k program which has a 4% match. Everyone is fully vested in their enrollment to the plan. We have financial advisors who are available to offer advice whenever needed. This perk is included for all employees, whether they want to participate in the 401k plan, or not.
Vertical Measures offers 4 health insurance plans, along with vision and dental plans. New hires are eligible the first of the month after the date of hire – no waiting period! Not only does Vertical Measures contribute heavily toward the premium for its employees, but also toward spouse and family premiums.
We offer IT services for all personally owned PCs and MACs. Employees can take advantage of our IT department’s extensive knowledge by bringing in their laptops or having IT remote into desktops at home for any technical help. They can be assured that home PC’s are free of viruses and updated with the latest software. Vertical Measures gives each employee their choice of a Mac or PC laptop upon hire, however, this perk is for any other home PC they may need help with.
We love all animals and encourage our team to bring their dogs to work. Any day of the week, an employee can sign up to bring their dog to work for the day. One dog per day – we can’t vacuum that much fur!
Vertical Measures offers a paid-time-off plan that is quite generous. Employees can borrow from future PTO if needed. VM’ers already enjoy working remotely at least one day a week, and the PTO plan was created with flexibility in mind, too. All Federal Holidays are recognized and extra time off is given before many of those holidays begin. Our entire workday is very flexible. If time is needed for a personal appointment, there are no issues when leaving the office.
The company created a closed Toastmasters group and all employees are invited to take part. Toastmasters meet during the workday twice a month. In addition to Toastmasters, Vertical Measures holds regular Lunch & Learn meetings where industry experts are invited to come in and speak to our staff. The company provides lunch for these meetings.
AZIMA events every month are also on the list of extra gatherings where employees can network and gain further knowledge and insight regarding our industry. We regularly send employees to digital marketing conferences across the country to continue education in their area of expertise.
Each year brings new faces, challenges, and memories. At Vertical Measures, we’re proud of the work we do for clients, but also of the positive environment we offer to our employees. For over a decade, the team at Vertical Measures has proven that we aren’t just digital marketing experts, we’re longtime colleagues that enjoy working side by side to generate results that rival agencies across the country.
Why Vertical Measures?
Our employees aren’t the only ones who love Vertical Measures. We focus on achieving results and aim to align those results with our client’s primary goals. Check out our case studies from clients in a variety of industries on a national and local level. We employ every effort to impact the overall performance and ROI of clients while easing any pain points along the way.
