Monthly Tip Blip – King Content Demands Devotion!

June 30th, 2009 • By: Eli  • Tips

When it comes right down to it, the only way linking should really take place is naturally.  That is, a webmaster or editor decides to post a link to another site simply because they find the content there to be King Content Demands Devotion!!!valuable in some way.  Of course, the reality of the situation is quite different and linking is very often done for reasons that should be considered commercial.  Despite links being highly manipulated by everyone, (oh yes, everyone) the fact remains that content is king on the Web and most websites should strive to create stellar content to attract attention with, if they don’t already have it.

So, while there are plenty of SEO techniques out there and many of them could easily help a site rank higher for keywords, it only makes sense to begin the whole exposure and popularity endeavor in the place that really matters to every user: Creating high quality content. Obviously, the content on a site is very much a function of what it’s all about, but there’s also definitely some room for everyone to move concerning topics, since Web users tend not to be picky about where content comes from as long as it’s useful or entertaining.

With all that in mind, a webmaster should look at all the pages and files that make up their site and determine what is good and popular (and visible at all) and what can be taken down or modified. The content that is either popular or has other indications of quality (interactive, multimedia, well researched and documented, helpful to a large group, fun, funny, etc…) must be positioned prominently within the site and linked to copiously. For most sites at that point, there would be precious little for anyone to look at, so whatever amount of content seems lacking is what must then be built, steadily and naturally.

So much the better if the material on a site shines with quality and SEO is employed too. In such cases many websites will already link naturally, but even link building in the form of commenting, social media, and webmaster solicitation will be far easier since there’s value in what the site freely provides.
