"Social Media Overload"

Got into bed to go to sleep tonight,
But wait, I forgot to update my social media sites!
Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and more,
What can I update that my friends and followers will adore?
Maybe post a photo or write something sweet,
It has to be something to guarantee a re-tweet!
A link to an article or a blog post will do,
It definitely has to boost SEO too.
So many options, so much to consider,
I think I’ll start by searching keywords on Twitter.
Great! There’s a Tweetup in my town next week,
That’s surely something to share with my tweeps.
But what about Facebook? It’s a whole different crowd,
A clever song lyric or quote will make my friends proud.
Ugh, I can’t think of anything, I’ll have to admit,
Oh wait, I can just Google-it!
LinkedIn is last and a very different site to manage,
But it offers great tools to use to my advantage.
I’ll request a recommendation and call it a night,
And now it’s finally time to turn off the lights.
Phew, so glad I’m done with social media today,
So I crawl under the covers to hit the hay.
But now I can’t sleep, so many thoughts racing through my head,
I guess I’ll check UberTwitter right from my bed…

"44 Tweets About 22 Women"

I followed @Lauren on Twitter In hopes she’d tweet me back

@Sarah had a YouTube hit Lip-dubbing Miley Cyrus
@Ellie sent me Farmville gifts That turned out to be a virus
@Alyssa ran a music blog And hipsters loved to comment

@Ally posted links to Digg So I retweeted her
@Jen worked in social media And search engine optimization
A friend request from lovely @Britt Once caused me great elation
@Elizabeth untagged our pics She said I was a jerk
@BritneyVids was just a tease But still Not Safe For Work
@Mandy mentioned me in posts And said our love was classic
And though @Megan linked to my content She just wanted to drive traffic
With 140 characters I won the heart of @Jan
But @Katie’s online mailing list Filled my inbox up with spam
@Trisha at the agency Worked with contextual ads
@Sandra loved to write new Wikis On the latest sexual fads
@Christina knew my login codes She hacked my accounts, I bet
But I met @Maria in real life Somehow without the Internet

 apple with heart cutout

Friday marked the last day for submissions to our "Ode to SEO" contest. We had many great entries, but our esteemed judges (randomly selected Vertical Measures staff members) narrowed them down to five. You’ll find the entries below in no particular order. Please vote for your favorite, and check back to our blog on Wednesday to see who won! Up for grabs: 1st Place- $1,000 Scholarship OR iPad (winners choice), 2nd Place- $250 Scholarship. Voting ends at 11:59 P.M. on February 23rd.

1)
Name: Adam Courtney
School: Arizona State University

Submission: "Facebook Breakup"
I went to login to Facebook on Valentines Day morning,
Completely unaware that I was about to receive a warning.
It seemed that my girlfriend had decided to unfriend me,
Leaving me to ponder if things really weren’t meant to be?
After checking her profile to see she was now “single,”
It was obvious to me that she no longer wanted to mingle.
Oh well, it’s not my fault she couldn’t ever take a joke,
But it was obvious that this was one girl I was no longer going to poke.

Name: Benjamin Bell

Submission: "To Friend or not to Friend"
I log onto Facebook as I would normally. Except this time is different For there is a Friend request I see.
I accept, as I know them from school, Oh man, bad mistake! Wasn’t I made a fool?
Spam everyday! Comment, Tag and Poke! I should not have added this person! Ah gee, they’re a joke!
I send them a message "Hey friend, SLOW DOWN!" They reply with a smiley then write on my wall, Using every verb and noun.
So I log in the next day Should I be surprised Fifteen new comments, all random and improvised!
I can’t take it anymore! Game over, THE END! So I look for that button Oh there it is! And I click "Unfriend".

Name: Hal Wendlinger

Submission: "Twitterhood"
A normal day in a twitterhood, Something easily understood,
A way to share your daily thoughts, Information so obsessively sought,
Before no way of knowing, That right now Shaq is out mowing, or that in DC its still snowing,
Follow your closest peers, Or even follow Brittney Spears,
World news in just one click, Info in a Tic,
Spread your buisness worldwide, Voice your opinions with pride
How could we go a day without a tweet? It seems a twitterhood is the perfect place to meet.

The Sweetest Link

Sunday, February 14th, 2010
valentine's day candies

Heart shaped candies, pretty paper cards, flowers and lots and lots of link love flying around .It’s no wonder Valentine’s Day is one of Vertical Measures’ favorite holidays. I’m sure that this fact is pretty apparent since we are shamelessly promoting not one but two “Love” themed promotions this month. 1.) The Vertical Measures “Ode to SEO” scholarship poetry contest where we are giving away $1000 dollars for school or a brand new iPad. 2.) The upcoming Arizona Interactive Marketing Association signature webinar featuring our very own, Arnie Kuenn, "How to Find True {Link} Love", on February 16th at 11:30 a.m. MST.

We certainly aren’t the only folks trying to capitalize on the warm and fuzzy feeling that is widespread on this lover’s holiday. Recently there have been a number of Valentine’s themed promotions running by some big name brands on Facebook. One such example is Victoria’s Secret’s “Wild at Heart Love Note” which allows women to send hints to their loved ones about the gifts from the store they’d like most for Valentine’s Day.

Skittles just kicked off its “Mob the Rainbow” campaign with a Valentine’s Day-themed promotion. Skittles is attempting to leverage its 3-million-strong fan base to do good, but in true light hearted Skittles fashion they are keeping it silly and even the campaign itself is sort of a joke.

The "Sweetest Tweets with the Sweetest Treats to Celebrate Valentine’s Day" promotion by Pizza Hut is based entirely on Twitter. They are asking their followers to tweet their best (or funniest) pick-up lines to @PizzaHut. The 100 best tweeters will receive a single order of HERSHEY’S® Chocolate Dunkers®. How can you resist?

So, instead of sending flowers, or penning a love poem on pink scented paper this year we urge you to post that poem on your blog, post it as a note on your Facebook page and tweet it out for the world to see. Send a little {link} love to your very special valentine this year!
