Thanks a lot Amanda, i was doing research on SEO and SEM and got a bit confused along the way. People when they talk of SEO they just mention blogs, forums and social bookmarking and they don’t know how directory submission is important for your business. Directories helps your business be noticed by all people in the world.

The most focused SEO techniques are not quite accurate to get you customers, but with directory submission, you can still get traffic what ever page rank you are in, you wont have to wait to have a PR8 to PR10 site to start getting traffic. I think people need to look at the advantages of directory submission like some you listed.

Thanks for this post, i was beginning to think that directory submission has was lost in the SEO environment.

Directory submission has gotten a bad rep but there is still a place for it in a link building campaign. The key is just to find quality directories. Check to see if it generates any traffic and always make sure that it is U.S. based. Niche directories are often the most beneficial since they attract a very specific target audience that is interested in your products or services.

Amanda, great post. Because there has been a big backlash towards directories over the past few years. And rightfully so, as thousands of spammy directories have popped up with the webmaster’s only seeing dollar signs and providing no value to the user.
